Anatomy of a Valve

Every shower has a valve that acts like an engine – shifting flow, regulating temperature and driving performance, and there are many options for design, functionality and operation suited to different applications.

The valve is placed behind the wall and connects directly to hot and cold water lines to regulate flow and temperature. CFG Dimension valves have a thin profile to fit within 2-by-3-inch wall studs. Most CFG valves are available in a variety of ½-inch connection types, including IPS/CC, PEX and CPVC.

A cartridge inserted into the valve connects to the external trim handles to control the mixture of hot and cold water and flow through the faucet based on the handle position. With this design, most leak issues can be solved simply by replacing the cartridge.

Select valves are available configured for shower-only or pre-fitted for tub/shower applications.

Terminology

Pressure-Balancing

All CFG Dimension valves are pressure-balancing to protect users from "shower shock" due to a sudden change in either hot- or cold-water pressure elsewhere in the plumbing system (i.e., toilet flush) by adjusting the flow of water to maintain a consistent water temperature. CFG Dimension valves feature a self-contained pressure-balancing spool located upstream from the water shutoff to minimize sticking. Water temperature remains +/- 3-degrees F, regardless of demand elsewhere in the system.

Easy Switch: With CFG Dimension valves, you can upgrade from cycling to volume control without replacing the valve. Instead, simply exchange cartridges and trim.
